review 1: This is the first book I've actually purchased in a long time. Between the library, getting books from friends, and getting review copies from publishers I don't often find the need to actually purchase a book. But I couldn't get my hands on this book and after seeing his heartbreak over Selena, I desperately wanted to read Theo's happily ever after. So I broke down and bought it. I was not disappointed and know that I will have to purchase the next installment as well! The growing relationship between Theo and 'the death lady' was enjoyable to watch unfold. A relationship that struggles with differences of opinion and that has to face tragedy. But during all that they manage to come out on the other side and are better off for it.We also got a little glimpse of Zoë ... moreand Quent's relationship which has me so excited for their future.I also enjoyed the hints of other storylines forming. For instance Remy and Wyatt are sure to have a powerful and emotional story based on the things that happen in this book that they will have to overcome. And, it looks like there is even romance brewing for Lou!This was a great book and hope you give it a try!
review 2: My Review:For some reason, this book seems much harsher to me than the others in this series have been. I am guessing that the reason for that is because, in this book, we become much more familiar with the gangas (zombies) and what they actually are and how that have come into creation. In addition, this book focuses on Theo. Theo is an interesting character from this series. He was in Vegas with his twin brother when the Change (apocalypse) occurred, but his experience was different from his twin brother, Lou's. Theo was caught up and buried under some electronics (he and his brother, Lou, are computer geniuses,) which caused a change in his genetic make-up. Like the others caught in the cave in Sedona, Theo doesn't age and has a super-power...he can generate an electrical charge.I have read a lot of books where the characters were hundreds of years old while still maintaining their youth. But for some reason, in this book (not the series, because it hasn't bothered me in the other books,) it's not the same because you see both Lou & Theo together. They are twins. One is elderly. One is not. There's something just a bit creepy about it (for me) about the constant reinforcement that Theo should be elderly too. I know it's because of the twin thing, but it bothered me to constantly be thinking about him actually being elderly. It brings a focus on the shallowness of how we look at aging. On the other hand, we have Selena, who is also very youthful looking for her age of 50. That was never really explained except for the fact that she was born during the midst of the Change. As a result, she has her own special gift...the ability to help usher souls into the afterlife. She is known as the Death Lady because everyone brings her the dying and she helps to ease their transition. That's how she meets Theo. He is brought to her because he is dying. While I didn't like this one quite as much as I have the others in this series, this was still an interesting book. I think that the issues I had will be mine alone. I am excited to see where the series goes from here...especially with Remington Truth. I know that we should have at least 2 more books in the series...Wyatt & Fence. I am thinking/hoping that there may be a bit more there with Ian, because his character intrigues me, but I may be writing more into that storyline than there actually is. All I know is that I can't wait for more of these books to come out. less
