review 1: I borrowed this book through Lendle.me, where you can borrow and lend kindle books. I'm glad I did, so I didn't feel the need to buy it.I'm not a contemporary romance reader--I prefer romantic sci/fi and fantasy. This caught my eye because of the opening paragraph. Parts of it were funny--the heroine has a lot going for her, and would be a fun character to follow in her own series. But the instant, white-hot attraction between her and the guy is a little bit too hackneyed to be believable. And the incredible urge the man (sorry, can't remember his name) has to just take her to bed made me really dislike him. Too much of their "relationship" was based on sexual attraction, and while that's necessary for a good relationship, there was too little time spent developing a... moreny other connection between them. The author also missed out on some very good opportunities for character building and humor (especially important in what's supposed to be a humorous book). One example is the dinner between the two main characters and the man's ex-fiancee and her father. She skipped right over something that could have been quite entertaining. And there were too many sex scenes--I skipped over them, thankfully that was easy to do, but they just underlined the fact that the relationship was more due to hormones than anything else. All in all, I can't really recommend it.
review 2: Another zero star book. He was basically a jerk, she was a doormat. She kept claiming to be a strong woman and objecting to his verbal abuse and nasty behavior in her head but she'd let it go because.... she was spineless. And occasionally he's apologize but he would a) not actually amend his behavior and b) be resentful about it and use it to get angrier the next time. Yes maybe she needed some money but putting up with being sexually harassed, called stupid and being denigrated in front of other people... no job is worth it sweetie. Not in "romance world" anyway, where the economy is whatever the author decides it is. The big climactic "I love you" scene involves him humiliating her on national tv. But she made him do it because he was desperate. Yeah, wife beaters use that reasoning all the time. It's still not going to fly. less
