review 1: Prudence Galewski has recently been hired to be an assistant in the Health and Sanitation Department of New York City in 1906. She assists in discovering the source of a Typhoid Fever epidemic that has continued to occur. This historical fiction book takes the Typhoid Mary story and brings it into a wonderful "diary" where teen and adult readers will discover the science that many of us take for granted in the 21st century. I believe readers will enjoy this book even if they aren't into historical fiction or medical thrillers.
review 2: A mixture of fiction and non-fiction surrounding "Typhoid Mary" narrated by a young girl working in the Health and Sanitation Department. I found her grappling with new scientific thought of the time including causes of disea... moreses and the roles of bacteria to be fairly intriguing. While the books is geared towards young adults, it left me wanting to investigate more about the events surrounding Mary Mahon. This may be an interesting book for some students in my Anatomy classes as part of a unit around epidemiology. less
