review 1: The more Julie Klam I read, the more I want to get my hands on (her books rather :))! What a fantastic story about the intricacies of adult friendship. When I hit my 30s my friendships changed DRASTICALLY and I was searching for a book to help me not only understand, but reaffirm that it happens to all of us.Thanks, Julie, for making me feel normal! And reminding me I need to continue to nurture those cherished friendships throughout my life.
review 2: Through a collection of light-hearted stories, Klam paints a vignette of the friendships in her life. These little case studies are meant to elucidate the universal ups and downs of friendship. She succeeded in this with me, since I could relate her stylized friends to people I share my life with, and the myriad ... morefriendship situations she navigated occur in real life.Unlike many other reviewers, I was indeed touched by Klam's "inimitable wit and disarming warmth." There were parts where I laughed out loud, and there were parts where I felt warm and fuzzy inside. The self-depreciating and warm irony humor struck a chord. This book is NOT a serious psychology book with numbered step-by-step instructions directing the reader on how to make, keep, or manage friends. Klam does not get on a soap-box to preach how to "friendkeep," but rather illustrates what worked or did not work for her in her anecdotes. I found this incredibly refreshing.Also, the structure of the book with short chapters and little stories make it easy to pick up, put down, and return to later. Rather than reading in one sitting, I read it bit by bit over a week. Flexible book, and one that I might maybe revisit. less
