Peggy Porschen

The Instagram famous entrance – people were queuing up to take photo’s!

In December I headed to London for a job interview and I decided to tick some things off my bucket list whilst I was there. So, I went to Winter Wonderland and to see Dreamgirls at the Savoy. I also met up with a friend and we decided to head to Peggy Porschen’s Parlour. We were both super excited having seen it all over Instagram.

I got there first and found myself in a queue, I guess with the amount of hype surrounding it I should have expected it, but waiting outside in London in December is not very fun. It turned out that the waiting time for inside was over an hour, and for outside it was 30 minutes. After about 35 minutes we got given a table outside, again it shows the length people will go to just to experience Peggy’s cakes – as there are not many places I would be willing to sit outside in the middle of December. Although they did provide blankets which was a nice touch.

Once we sat down, our order was taken pretty quickly. And it didn’t take too long to arrive.  I ordered a caramel latte and a salted caramel layer cake and it came to £10.15, my friend had a cup of floral rose tea and a slice of the lemon, raspberry and rose layer cake (coming in at £9.70.) Expensive but pretty similar to other cake shops in London such as the Hummingbird Bakery (which is a favourite of mine!)

The coffee was average, although granted I am a bit of a coffee snob. They also didn’t bring out any sugar, and I couldn’t grab any of the staff to ask for any. The cake was nice, but it definitely wasn’t the best cake I’ve ever had. I also think it would have been nice if it could have said on the menu that my cake had nuts on – I’m not allergic but I really don’t like them and I think that had a negative impact.

We nipped inside to take a sneaky photo – the decor and atmosphere added much needed bonus points. I think it might have been worth the wait to sit inside!

Once we had finished, our plates were taken away, but no one brought the bill. After about 15 minutes we realised they had forgotten so we tried to to grab a member of staff to remind them, it probably took about 30 mins from them cleaning the table to us receiving our bill and then we had to wait for a card machine. I honestly felt sorry for the staff having to stand outside in the freezing cold all day, so I don’t blame them for hiding inside when they got the chance.

The Christmas themed windows were a highlight. Although the out of place fluff is now really stressing me out.

Have you been and had a similar experience? Or is Peggy Porschen’s your favourite cake shop in London? Let me know in the comments.

Love Beck
xoxo
