review 1: ** A free copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review through the DBML program in the MM Romance group **3.5 Stars rounded up :) Hard Act To Follow is the third book in the Shooting Stars series. Having read and liked the first two I decided to give this one a chance. This story is a sweet GFY where we meet Greg, a straight man who is now divorced. Greg, and his ex wife Jasmine have a very good relationship. They had an amicable divorce and Greg is still pretty close with Jasmine's family, which, obviously, includes Kyrie, Jasmine's openly gay brother. Kyrie is studying to be an actor. His relationship with Greg is that of really close friends. They talk often and Kyrie relies a lot on Greg, which Greg loves. The attraction between both of... more them is so obvious that borders in hero-worship, and it's, for the most part, really adorabl... thing is that they're not entirely conscious of it... Proof of that are Kyrie's efforts to get Greg and his sister back together, which only makes things painfully akward...It is Greg the one who first comes to terms with his attraction to his best friend. Being a straight man, feeling like this causes him lots of trouble, not only because he is attracted to another guy, but because this guy is... well... his ex's brother... Oh, the messy mess!.At some point things get out hand and stuff happens. Fear of having fucked up comes along, and misscommunication takes place. I sometimes thought they were behaving like kids, you know? instead of just step up and DEAL with the situation... but, then, well it's easy for me as a reader to just say that lol. In the end things work out. I liked them as a couple. I liked the family dynamic that went through all the book.. I was surprised at everyone's reactions when they got the news, and i'm not entirely sure i liked the way they told Kyrie's family, but all in all, i really enjoyed this! :)
review 2: I was a bit worried when I first started reading this book because at first, I didn’t realize that it was the 3rd book in the series. So I was pleasantly surprised that it ended up being fine while reading because the other books didn’t seem to have a role in this one. That might not be the case in all honesty, but I personally didn’t feel lost or confused while reading it in the slightest.I really enjoyed the characters in this story, especially Greg. I am a total anguish person when it comes to stories, and I thought there was just the right amount of that in this story. I loved Greg’s character because I really liked the back and forth with him, he knew what he wanted but he was afraid to go after it. To me, that’s what made the story so much better because it wasn’t an insta-love and completion story, there was enough in it to keep my attention and make me want to read to more to find out what was going to happen.I did still enjoy Kyrie’s character, he wasn’t one of my favorites, but I do think that he was a good match for Greg. He was very fun loving and easy to like, which I do enjoy with characters at times.Overall, I can say that I haven’t read anything by this author in the past, but I will be sure to keep an eye out for more books by them in the future. *Copy provided for review*Reviewed by Crystal Marie for Crystal’s Many Reviewers less
