Pride & Prejudice Continues
review 1: Charlotte didn't think love was required in marriage. All she asked for was a home wishing to know as little about the defects of her partner as necessary. However, once married Charlotte learned how important it as to feel loved and didn't like her husband taking sides with Lady Catherine instead of herself. I enjoyed getting to know Charlotte more along with the new characters in this novel (Charlotte must have some friends in Hunsford!) but I really enjoyed reading about the transformation in Mr Collins. It surprised me at times and gave us new understanding into his past which made him the ridiculous man he was. What really shocked me was Colonel Fitzwilliam. I could understand how he would fall victim to feelings he should not have but to become so determined (spoiler... mores alert) as to fail to respect Charlottes wishes shocked me. I was glad to see Charlotte get her happy ending by the end!
review 2: This book is rated PG. I don't know about you but I kinda like to know that up front so I don't keep reading waiting for the spice only to find it's rather bland. This one has a very little. ** Spoiler Alert** I'm sorry but I cringed at the intimate scenes with Mr. Collins. I never quite got over how creepy he was in the book and movie: Pride and Prejudice. I was really hoping Charlotte was going to move on. Probably not a realistic expectation especially for that time period but, one could hope especially in fan fiction as it wasn't entirely unheard of. I found the ending completely ridiculous! Never would a man such as Colonel Fitzwilliam pledge undying love to Charlotte in her small parsonage with Mr. Collins and the servants present! What ensues is a 19th century soap opera. If you're not a fan of Mr. Collins...skip it. less
