review 1: Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock5 FangsCassie awakens after a thousand years of being in a cryogenic tube. She was in a helicopter accident that left her brain dead. Her grandfather paid to have her placed in the tube in hopes that one day they would be able to make Cassie healthy again. When she awakens a very young Dr Bennett is there to help her in her recovery. Cassie finds out that things are very different a thousand years later. A plague killed half the population about 600 years ago. The world is set up in three regions now. Every one is banded and tracked. There is no privacy and freedom anymore. The world no longer looks to the past to study and learn but focuses on the future. Cassie finds out they only awakened her so that she can save the ... morehuman race from extinction. Everyone seems to be keeping secrets from Cassie about why she is really there. This was a great book. Very well written. I liked Cassie's character. I can understand her frustration with not being able to leave her room or look out a window. You felt bad for her every time they told the truth on something they either kept secret from her or lied to her about. Dr Bennett was the one person she really wanted to trust and he kept things from her. I understood her mixed feelings on saving the human race. You would want to do that but under your own terms not someone else's. You would want control over your own life and not be used like an object. This book makes you think about the what if's and how you would feel being put in that predicament.I would recommend this book to YA readers who enjoy Sci-Fi.
review 2: This is a good book for mid-teens. The vocabulary and writing isn't too high-level, but it does have some more mature topics and information in it that make it more of mid-teens instead of for a younger teenager. It's a great book however, and once one begins reading, it's difficult to stop. The writing actively pushes the reader onward and the reader's curiosity as to what will become of the likeable main character propels tired eyes onto new heights. It seems sometimes like the author was just adding things in as the story went along, some just a tad unbelievable and maybe a bit corny, but overall events fit like puzzle pieces, and well worth reading and I'm extremely excited for the next book in the series. It's a fantastic concept, new and old facts and ideas mixed expertly in the life of main character Cassie and the new world she awakens in.The romance is well-written to be exciting, but not vulgar, as well and one roots for the success of the main pairing, Michael and Cassie, in the end of the book.It could easily be made into an award-winning movie, and quite frankly, I hope it is. Both of Thompson's books that I've had the pleasure of reading are well-done. less
