review 1: Without doubt, one of the most phenomenal, original, bizarre and inspiring books I have ever read. The cartoons, all in jade and white had me captivated. The characters are inspired and their situations and quirks bizarre, and yet they touch on real compulsions, desires and obsessions - the things we prefer not to think about or admit to. A truly open-minded and liberating book. I absolutely loved it - such a brave book and bravo to Random House for publishing it. Would recommend it wholeheartedly!
review 2: I got drawn into this graphic novel in the way that you catch glimpses of lives as you pass by lighted rooms on a train or bus at night. After the introduction of a new arrival at a house converted into flats we are one by one introduced to a collectio... moren of characters with worrying foibles or flaws. What follows is a selection of bizarre and mind boggling encounters with extraordinary lives sharing a house with history. It's true that this book really does exploit the potential of empathetic storytelling with sparse but apposite pictures and words. less
