Secret Shopper
review 1: 2.5 starsThis caught my eye in my local charity shop as it mentions secret shopping in the title, something I am interested in as I have played the part of both the hunter and the hunted in the world of secret shopping myself. The story was told from the viewpoints of three main characters; Grazia, Sandie and Emily. I really enjoyed Grazia and Sandie's stories and development, but didn't much like Emily. This was really unfortunate as she seemed to get more chapters than the other two, which was strange. Surely if you were going to alternate between three different narrators, their 'slots' should be roughly equal? I think it would have worked better that way anyway. And even though I didn't like Emily or her voice as much as the other two, I could certainly sympathise with ... moreher. Her husband was unaccountably awful! The other two had incredible baddies to deal with too, the horrible Marsha for Sandie and the outrageous Della for Grazia. Della didn't have a big part in the story, but boy did she make an impact!I really liked Will too, and found there to be a satisfying amount of secret shopping in the story, rather than just a quick mention and then it all being about the rest of the characters' lives as I feared it may be. It seems that their are at least another two books after this in the series, but I don't think I'll be rushing to read them to be honest, especially if Emily continues to be the prominent character.
review 2: Enjoyed this book, and enjoyed how it was easy to get through. It was funny and interesting to read about the secret shopping, never really knew that much about it. The developing friendship between the three women was nice to read about - different women from different walks of life brought together by circumstance. Loved how umm what was her name, the girl who worked in the shop, was finally proven right. The mother's story I liked but found a bit too predictable. Would have preferred to see her turn into a fab woman who loves being single, however guess that's just me!All in all an enjoyable and easy read. less

An easy to read chick lit which lovers of the Sophie Kinsella Shopaholic series would enjoy!
