review 1: I had a hard time getting through this book. The material was interesting which made parts of the book easy to get through, but it was bogged down by a lot of details. Too many details. I think all the extra details were supposed to help paint a picture for that time in society, but it became tedious. I felt like the chapter with the verdict could have been shorter. I kept thinking "Skip to the end..." (a line from "Spaced" where Tim hurries Daisy along with the details she wants to tell him that are sort of relevant to the real point).
review 2: The most disappointing part of this book is that we never get to actually read the diary -- just the parts that were published in the newspapers or reprinted for court documents at the time. As a sort of footnote we l
... moreearn that the actual diary was destroyed by her family and while Mrs. Robinson's own writing at the time was not even clear enough to make out as to whether or not infidelity actually occurred, it would've made a better read to have the full diary along presented with all the research. At the very least an interesting commentary on Victorian romance and divorce law at the time. less
