Roscoe Riley Rules
review 1: SUMMARY:Silly Roscoe always tries to help, but things never turn out quite the way he planned! The story begins with Roscoe Riley in time-out as he begins telling his version of why he has been punished. A well-intentioned Roscoe Riley tried to help his new teacher during an open house performance; one that his class was putting on for their families. Only, while Roscoe thought it was a good idea to LITERALLY glue everything to its proper place, he found that not everyone agreed! As much as his parents and teacher appreciated his good intentions, Roscoe learned that using Super-Mega-Gonzo Glue to keep his friends in their seats and their homemade antennas on their heads, was not the best way to ensure a smooth performance. EVALUATION:Get ready to be entertained! This story... more is full of quick wit and humor, likely to appeal even to adults. A great start for early chapter book readers, as chapters are shorter and the illustrations are relevant to the text. The humor will attract older and more advanced readers as an option for independent reading, while it will also entertain younger, early readers for an interactive read aloud. The message is one that all parents can agree with: although kids may have ideas of what they think is right or helpful, adults DO typically know what is best. Those who love Roscoe will be happy to know that the author has created a whole series for Roscoe's antics. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:1. What other solutions could Roscoe have come up with to help his teacher?2. When would you admit that you super-glued everyone to their chairs and costumes?3. How would the story be different if Roscoe used tape instead of glue?4. Why did Roscoe feel he needed to help his teacher?5. Why did his teacher think that Roscoe meant well and not get really mad at him?6. How would your parents/teacher/principal react if you glued your classmates to their chairs?7. Why was Roscoe's solution not a good one?
review 2: I love this book because it describes this first grader Roscoe Riley and how he is in time out because he glued his friends to chairs and then he was put in time out but that is not the real story. In Roscoe's class they are having a open house and the kids are going to sing a bee song and have antennas on there heads. Also before this event the third graders used the antennas and they stretched it out a bit so now it doesn't fit the little kids head. Whenever they rehearsed the antennas fell off so at home Roscoe need art supplies and he found out that there was a super extreme strong glue so he decided to take it to school. When he got their he showed his teacher what he brought for the open house rehearsal. Then he decided during rehearsal he put a little drops of the glue on the antennas so they can stick to the children's head then his friend Gus was a little jumpy and he said maybe i should put some glue on the chairs so Gus can sit still then he put glue on all of the chairs that the children sit on and made sure that he didn't put any on the chairs that the parents sat on. At the open house a lot of people were their so then the children put on their headbands and got into their positions and they sand their bee song. After that when everyone was about to line up for desert with their parents they noticed that their antennas didn't come of and they couldn't get up of their chairs so then everyone started to go crazy. Then someone tripped and fell on the desert table and then a pie started flying strait towards the teacher and then Roscoe jumped with a chair stuck to his bottom and the pie landed on him instead of the teacher and thats the whole story. less
