review 1: I loved this book based on a true story about a dwarf who lived first at he Coudenberg Palace of the Spanish Netherlands in the 16th century and then at the castle of Tycho Brahe, the famous scientist from Denmark. Jepp is the dwarf and he tells his story in the first person. The main theme of the story is - Do the stars (astrology) determine your fate or can you shape your own fate through the choices that you make. I couldn't put this book down as Jepp finds out more and more about himself throughout the story.
review 2: This book was so good! An unusual world and cast of characters. I loved the voice of Jepp and nerdily loved reading in the author's interview at the end that his voice was based on actual English words used commonly in that time. I didn't
... morerealize that this was a true work of historical fiction until reading that interview - so many of these characters are based on real people rather than on total author fabrication (which I also nerdily enjoy knowing). I found this book fast paced and sweet. Recommended. less

A little slow to start, but Jepp is a beautifully written and wonderfully told story.

Simply beautiful. Who knew historical fiction could feel so much like epic fantasy.
