review 1: I'm not big on memoirs, but I do like cooking. So I guess that's what brought me to this book. Only one recipe looks interesting enough to consider trying and it was in the appendix. I was amused by some of the similarities between our childhoods - mine in PA, hers in MI only a few years earlier, along with a description of her families hunting season traditions. Overall, I think this book was kind of sad, though I don't think she intended for it to have that feel.
review 2: Kathleen Flinn, a chef and writer, tells this tory of growing up and the food and family that shaped her life. She is the youngest of five kids--her brothers and sister are much older than her - I think her closest sibling is about nine years older than she is. They grew up very poor -
... more- very poor at times -- but the author does not seem to realize it and remembers growing up with cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles that visit frequently. Despite the poverty, she remembers growing up with love and food and fun. less

A pleasant memoir but not a must read by any stretch of the imagination.

OK...not too exciting, but some good stories. Recipes should be good.
