review 1: Ellina Kostova is a reclusive writer who is half demon/half human. After her house has been broken into several times, her brother Maksim insists on hiring a bodyguard to protect her. Jude Anthony is a half vampire/half werewolf who is all bad-ass when it comes to his job as a bodyguard, but he’s also a great cook as well. I liked the characters and the premise of the story, despite a few things that popped up during the course of the story – like how did Jude become a vampire and a werewolf? He talks about becoming a vampire, but we don’t hear anything about the werewolf aspect. He doesn’t seem to exhibit many of the traits of either one; he supposedly gets all the speed and strength of both, but then he doesn’t need to drink blood or change into a wolf eve... moren at the full moon. To me he seems like a strong, bad-ass human. Ellina’s demon side didn’t seem very impressive either; she just has a few outward physical changes but has no power, extra senses, etc. I did enjoy the story as a light-hearted paranormal romance. Despite a bit of confusion over a few points, it was a fun read.
review 2: This was a fun, quick read. Maksim's sister Ellina Kostova (1/2 demon) has had her home broken into a few times, so he hires a bodyguard to protect her. A reclusive author, Ellina does not want a stranger in her house! She doesn't think she needs a bodyguard... especially one who is as attractive as he is... since she has a physical problem when she gets horny. Jude has worked all kinds of jobs in his long existence working for the paranormal. When he meets Ellina - the instant attraction he feels for her could be a problem. He initially turns down the job, but When Maksim's wife goes into labor and they have to leave - he feels compelled to stay and watch over Ellina. After meeting other members of her family, and doing some research, he believes that there are people out there who may want to kill her. So, he has to fight the attraction to do his job. The types of books she writes are related to why someone is after, as she includes real magical spells in her fiction - not knowing that anyone would actually attempt the spells. Likeable characters, family interactions, drama and humor mixed together with a dose of action, and romance make for a fun story. Love this series! less

Didn't know this was part of series, but it was just fine as a stand-alone book. :)
