review 1: I'm glad I ignored so many low reviews on this book and read it. We read for bookclub and we all liked it. It was a great read. The story and the characters were likeable. If you are interested in silversmithing at all, the description about how the swords and daggers were forged and how the iron was worked was interesting without it going on and on. It added interest to the story. There were a lot of characters in this book, but the story was easy to follow and quite interesting. I would recommend.
review 2: The book suffer from being poorly edited. Too much stuff, too many people whom I don't care about, and too many looks into everyday life, which don't bring anything to the story, and pull the story ahead. What I did like was the bits about forging, ... moreand the glances into the 12c society. I read the first half over a weekend, and then left it for two months without even missing it. Or even wondering how the Ellen & her men fared. less
