review 1: This book was an enjoyable, refreshing non-fiction book on the women who are the wives of the men on Duck Dynasty. To be honest, I have only watched 1 epistle at a cousin's house as I don't have cable and have only free digital channels (from a digital antenna). What I liked about this book was that it written by a group of authors and not one author. It is easy to read yet honest, straight forward. Obviously no one is perfect but by the grace of God these women lived the lives they lived and found forgiveness, joy, happiness, and love in the midst of the world they lived. This book is kind of a biography (shorter) but it feels more like a memoir. I found it wonderful the various, different backgrounds that these women have and how God worked in their lives. Readers may fi... morend themselves identifying more with one of the women than with others but in the end you find that you appreciate each individual and what they have to share.I recommend it to young folks and older readers who would enjoy a clean, encouraging stories of real life people in the modern world we live in.
review 2: “Surprising insights” (from the cover) is absolutely accurate. I admire that the women each shared very personal stories, and consistently came back to the same guiding principles of God and family. This book could be listed under “Parenting 101” I wish my parents had taught me this way. I wish I had taught my daughter this way. I wish all parents would teach their children this way (that’s the teacher speaking in me - in six hours a day, teachers are limited in their time to influence youngsters; we’re supposed to teach them well but we can’t talk about God!).Easy to read, no flowery descriptions, just simple, direct language allows one to skim through or slow down to let the messages sink in.The first episode I watched after having finished the book had me watching the show more closely for the book’s messages, and with more understanding of how the family interacts. The photos of the ladies as children, young moms, and as they are today were particularly interesting to pour over. The organization of the themes of each section gave each lady a place to describe her unique place in the family without the reader getting confused. Special quotes set aside in bold print make some of the important sayings easy to find as one browses through. less
