review 1: I loved so many things about this book; Wyma comes from a far-more privileged background than I could relate to but she wants the same thing as I do for her children. This book is ideal for the parents of elementary/middle-school aged kids; if yours are in high school, you will have more work (as Wyma points out). Particularly helpful was Wyma's bumping up against societal expectations (or lack thereof) for children. They've changed since I was a kid and this book was extremely helpful in furthering my determination to do better than the prevailing culture for my kids.
review 2: Bleh. I usually don't skim books, but I found myself doing just that after a few chapters. This book has great principles, but it's way too preachy for my tastes. Add to the fact that it
... more's written by someone whose parents employed a maid her entire childhood, and I wonder where she gets off saying that other people feel too entitled. Please.I couldn't finish it. It would have been better off published as a top ten list on a single web page. less

Read the first chapter, and I'm going to give it a try. Will check it out again later on.

The ideas are good and I like the big picture, but it got a bit tedious to read.

Some good, practical ideas. But, too long and too boring.
