review 1: Very similar format to Attenborough's 1982 movie, which Ebine notes as one of the main sources for his work. Many other reviewers noted the typos, which were plenty, but it didn't take away from the overall story for me. Having read other bios of Gandhi, I was familiar with many parts of the story and the varied locations - not knowing these things previously, I would have been confused by the time and location jumps. Great artwork - beautifully illustrated.
review 2: Ebine, K. (2011). Gandhi: A manga biography. New Delhi: Penguin Books.Summary: Gandhi was an educated man who stood up for what was right while peacefully enacting civil disobedience. People around the world looked to him as a model for peaceful activism. Even up until his death, he fought for peo
... moreple's rights and for peace between people. It was his life calling. Review: Booklist (November 15, 2011 (Vol. 108, No. 6))Grades 7-10. How did a shy boy become Mahatma Gandhi, the founder and leader of the nonviolent resistance movement in India’s struggle against British rule? Despite a few typos, Ebine’s nicely drawn manga biography is a clear and concise introduction to Gandhi’s life. The biography not only touches upon Gandhi’s major accomplishments, such as fighting against Indian apartheid in South Africa and promoting India’s independence, but also humanizes Gandhi by showing his struggles with insecurity as a young man. His self-realization and development as a leader, coupled with references to some of his best-known sayings, help to provide a complete picture of this humble and revered man’s life. With its detailed dates of events, author’s note, and bibliography, this title is a great addition to social studies curricula, and it will have special appeal to budding young activists and idealists.Curriculum Connection: When studying influential people in history, world religions, or activism, secondary students in late middle or early high school could learn about Gandhi's life through this selection. Diversity: This book traces the life of Gandhi in India, South Africa, and England, exposing students to different regions around the world. It also deals heavily with Gandhi's decision to follow the Hindu faith but while respecting those of the Muslim faith.Genre: Biography/Nonfiction (format: manga)Age: Secondary less

Didn't really add anything to my understanding of Gandhi, but decent nonetheless.
