review 1: I was reading this book to broaden my horizons (and by recommendation of the author's father), not because I have a natural love of maps. As it was, this book exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed Jennings' personal, almost stream-of-consciousness writing style. And surprisingly enough, I awakened my childhood love of maps that was nearly abandoned and totally forgotten. Still, I am far from a "Maphead," so I can confidently say that this book is a good read for anyone (1) who loves maps, (2) has a strange fascination with Ken Jennings, or (3) just wants to explore a new topic. It is fun, charming, and enlightening. And to the author's credit, his chapter on geocaching was intriguing enough that I actually tried it out. Go figure.
review 2: I really
... more enjoyed this book, because I love maps. It surprised and delighted me to read about other people who like to pore over maps and atlases. It was interesting to read about all the many aspects of map making and usage. I also enjoyed the facts and trivia sprinkled throughout the book. I was ready for the book to end, as he completely exhausts the subject, but I was glad it was all there. less

I love learning about things I do not know- this was a great introduction to the history of maps.

I'm a map geek. What's not to like about a book about maps?

A lot better than I expected a book about maps would be.
