review 1: This is an incredible love story! I've got a few quotes that I thought were so meaningful. From intro p. 15 "If we put our hope in a certain set of circumstances working out in a certain way at certain times, we're bound to be disappointed because nothing in this life is certain. What's the solution? To give up on dreams? No, it is to realize that if we belong to God, there are even bigger dreams for our lives than our own. But in order to walk in those bigger dreams, we may face greater obstacles than we ever imagined and find ourselves compelled to rely on a much more powerful and magnificent God than we ever knew before. That's what happened with Ken and Joni. Some people might call it a fairy tale, but it's really a miracle. And a miracle is better than a fairy tale."p... more. 17 "God, who foresaw your tribulation, has specially armed you to go through it, not without pain but without stain." C.S. Lewisp. 21 "This is God's universal purpose for all Christian suffering; more contentment in God and less satisfaction in the world." John Piperp. 177-8 Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 "God has used every trial- every hurt and heartache- to entwine us far more intimately than we ever dreamed on the day we married. The more devastating the trials, the more He has wrapped us both around Himself. That's the cord of three strands the Bible speaks about. Husband, wife and the Lord Himself. If the man and woman twine their lives around each other in marriage, that is good, and they'll be stronger for it. But, if both of them twine themselves around the living God, that's the best of all. It's a union that will hold through anything that life-or even hell- might throw at them. Oh, please pray for your partner. p. 180 "The best life is a life that's invested in someone else."p. 181 "Hang in there. Life will not always be this hard, or marriage so difficult. There is coming a Day when something so grand and glorious will appear that it will supersede even marriage. Heaven is on the horizon for us all, and what we do down here on earth- every little drastic obedience- all of it will one day have a direct bearing on our capacity for joy and for worship and service in heaven."
review 2: What an inspiring love story! Joni and Ken have endured more than their share of obstacles and difficulties during their many years together. They are brutally frank in sharing the lows, which only makes you rejoice all the more with them in the highs. Their faith in God and commitment to each other is a true role model. Reading their story sort of puts things in perspective. Whatever strugles my husband and I may face, I know we can get through them, with God's help less
