review 1: Nearly anthropological example of a very common sort of growing up in the 70s and 80s, except stitched through with disturbing threads. There is scary stuff in here, and it is for the most part front-loaded, then allowed to push the surface on occasion. In the more common experiences that are recollected, it also serves as a reminder of the reasons most of us do our best not to open those particular pathways. A few tonal errors attempt to lighten the mood but seem like lapses in editing.
review 2: The diary format of this book allows for random short reads. The stories reminded me how mean kids can be and how crazy family life can be. Most importantly it reminded me that looking back at the past is our greatest teacher of life. I think the poor reviews are f... morerom people who were expecting a linear memoir. This book is best in bits and pieces. Having heard Kevin read and speak, his "voice" resonates through the book. less
