review 1: LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! What a fantastic first book for Killion! Not sure who I loved more, Broc or Lizbeth. Broc is one hell of an alpha hero - strong, protective, honorable...and OMG, he is hot! And Lizbeth? Though she's the daughter of the Lord High Executioner, she cares for the prisoners who her father kills and tortures. She is reviled by many simply because of who her father is. Though frightened, she is compelled to save innocent Broc from sure death. Her strength, despite her fear, is what makes her a fantastic heroine. I thought it was interesting to have a main character with OCD (counting). And we learn why, which I won't ruin here. Their escape keeps you riveted, and their romance keeps you reaching for the ice water!
review 2: I'm not sure if it
... more was the era depicted, the constant treachery, or the characters themselves that caused my reaction to this tale. "Her One Desire" by Kimberly Killion is certainly spicier than the norm for books from this era, but even the sexual interactions felt forced from the characters rather than a natural consequence of their desire and feelings for one another. The author does give us some interesting historical information and offers up a different answer to the two dead children in 'the Tower' of London.Lizbeth is the daughter of the Lord High Executioner and has been mistreated by the Chief Warder, despicable Lord Hollister, who is a thoroughly going rotter who is the ultimate man in charge of the Tower. When she tries to escape the Chief Warder by going to her father, the distraction she provides allows the Scottish prisoner her father is torturing to escape. The prisoner grabs Lizbeth and they flee. There are many twists and turns and stops and starts in the story, but all does (finally) end with an HEA for our intrepid hero and heroine. The book does have a kind of "Outlander" air to it, but without the time travel or the need to plow through 600-800 pages. (I would appreciate it if Gabaldon fans don't stone me in effigy.) So if that era or feeling of book is your 'thing', you just might enjoy "Her One Desire" by Kimberly Killion at a little less than 350 pages! less
