review 1: I was given a copy of this book to review in exchange for an honest review. And, sadly, I honestly found it to be terrible. The writing is inconsistent but mostly terrible. The story was interesting at times but Lola Montez, like the writing, was also mostly terrible. I tried to appreciate the campiness of the story but it's terrible even for camp. In my opinion, there is nothing to recommend this book. Do yourself a favor & don't read it.

I think I kept waiting to see Lola provide some evidence of her intelligence -- mostly, she seemed to be a survivor based on chance and her willingness to exploit her beauty and sexuality. A bit too loose for a biography... although I could be wrong. Maybe some of it was based on fact...

Fun, sassy, suspenseful... a great summer read! The main character is hilarious.
