review 1: Before you read a book, you look at the cover. If the cover isn't all that impressive, you generally put the book down. The cover of the book itself isn't all that boombaha. Just the generic mysterious shot w/ the fantasy backround. It's the model on front that makes it awesome. I can thank thank thank someone up the food chain that they didn't use a diapheromera femorata. Honestly. I can name plently of models on book covers that look like they haven't the slightest idea of what food is. Not that I'm basmashing the girl or anything, it's just that it's about time they used someone realistic looking.
review 2: This retelling of Snow White is a much darker story than the classic tale and bears a superficial resemblance to the new movie "Snow White and the Huntsm
... morean" currently at the cinemas. There is the beautiful queen Octavia who after killing off the King rules the land of Thesperia with evil intent. Enslaved are the two daughters who once were princesses but are now beaten and punished for who they are by the queen. Natalia and Rose are each other's comfort and they try to stay alive by slaving away doing mundane chores but everything changes once the queen orders the huntsman to kill Natalia and cut out her heart. She escapes through a magic mirror and her life is changed forever when she is captured by a band of carnivorous dwarves in the silver forest. The seven dwarves in the classic tale were much more welcoming and less dangerous but she reluctantly makes a bargain that saves her life. The forest has been altered and instead of lush green grass and trees it is made of metal where cruel and evil creatures roam at night. Handsome princes, magic and the fey are roaming within the forest and enemies become allies as they work towards a common goal. Natalia who took the nickname Snow must learn to fight and harness her magic as only she can defeat the evil queen, save her sister and the kingdom. I liked the twist with Queen Octavia and it gave me an understanding of who she really was, not everyone starts out being truly evil. There is a touch of romance but it is mainly a coming of age story about a girl who triumphs over evil and becomes a woman to be reckoned with. Well done Krystle, I enjoyed this story of good versus evil and loved the visual imagery. Your words conjured up detailed pictures in my mind of this magical kingdom. less
