review 1: I'm about to finish reading this one, and it's been a pleasure. This is a great soft introduction to the world of homeschooling, especially for a mother considering homeschooling her strong-willed daughter. The narrative makes it an easy, compelling read, but there's also plenty of substance to consider. Overwhelmingly, I've been with Laura Brodie in most of her strengths, and sadly, weaknesses. Here's the thing, though: This woman is super smart. I mean, super smart. She seems to pull from an endless reservoir of knowledge of history, science, writing, math, and she's interested in everything. She's also a musician. Whew. And she really struggles. So, how does this impact me? I think it gives me a more realistic picture of what homeschooling could truly look like in our h... moreousehold, which is an important first step.
review 2: A friend of mine loved this book, so I feel bad not enjoying it as much, as I always do when a friend loves a book I don't. But oh well, we can still be friends. ;) Although it showed the struggle the author encountered with homeschooling (like most other homeschooling books don't), ultimately it was kind of dry for me. It almost seemed like it was so unfulfilling for her daughter that she had rather gone back to school after that homeschooling year and deal with all the homework that brought her to hide in her closet in the first place. Like she would take all the things she hated school for over staying at home with her mom for another year. It was not much more to me than reading someone else's experience and thinking, "Well, okay, that was interesting. Next please." less

This book could've been written by me...except for the Phd from Harvard part...
