review 1: This was good but not excellent, in the end. The ending, in particular, was kind of lackluster. The first chapter is spellbinding, and in fact I had to put the book away at the end of the first chapter because I couldn't bear to know what happened next. But the parts of the fallout of the shocking events that were of most interest to me - the immediate aftermath - didn't appear until well over halfway through the book. Several characters were under-developed, particularly both police officers - Junot and the school cop. However, it was a pleasant enough read that I would recommend it.
review 2: I thought the book was a bit boring. The author tried to create some drama at the beginning by leaving out who had been killed the night at the house, allowing the read
... moreer to assume that it was Maggie's mother who had been killed, but I saw the "twist" that she was actually alive coming a mile away. The author failed to create any depth in her characters so it was hard to "connect" with them and be invested in their story and their relationships. less

An excellent read, full of twists and surprised - I burned through it.
