review 1: I was really excited to see Laura Brodie write another novel as I loved "The Widow's Season". While this book was good, I didn't like it as much as her other work. The story is told from the perspective of three women: Emma, a former English professor whose life changes course drastically after an encounter with three of her students; Maggie, Emma's daughter-now a teenager but who at the age of 5 witnesses the what happened with her mom and the students; and finally, Grace Murdock, who is central to what happened at Emma's house, almost 9 years ago.The book was a quick read but I felt like the writing lacked depth. The characters all seemed to be well developed, perhaps too much. I liked how the story built but seemed to deflate in the last two chap... moreters.
review 2: This book was wonderful, the way the author wrote from both mother and daughter's view of the crime and how they felt about it made you feel for both people. They way she made Grace seem like a real person and not just a witness and liar makes you feel for her also. I love the way Emma ended things with Grace, making her confess the truth to media, but having the story go on to say if she did it or not would have been nice. All in all this was a good read for many ages!! less

Too much detail in parts of the book caused it to drag a little.
