review 1: This book was recommended and is one of the best sellers in Jashenmal's bookstore and that to me is scary. The amount of inaccurate information in it is too much. It felt as though the author found one source and decided to use it for the entire book. This book failed to include information from more highly accurate sources and resided at presenting merely arguments. For example, the book mentions that Ali (رضي الله عنه) did not want to pay allegiance to Abu-Bakr (رضي الله عنه). It also states that Aisha (رضي الله عنها) was not in good terms with Fatima (رضي الله عنها). This is not true. I wish the author would've checked the credibility of the sources she has used, or at least presented the two sides of the story. I will not be f... moreinishing this book.
review 2: Barring the author's heavy reliance on a handful of sources of Islamic history, the book paints the characters in the early Islamic era in a very 'human' fashion. Of course, owing to the author's non-Islamic faith, she could take liberties while ascribing earthly emotions to erstwhile godly figures. It is perhaps this and her narrative style, (and her evident admiration for that Arab gem, Ali) that particularly draws me to this book. less

An eye-opener, but slightly biased in favour of Shia.
