53 Letters for My Lover
review 1: 4 stars.Cheating in books had never really bothered me. The cheating in this book didn't bother me, instead I was intrigued by it. I've known many marriages that lasted 3 decades or more but to know that love outside of a marriage could last that long just blew my mind.Shayda was born in Iran and in order to give her a better life she moved to Canada to live with her aunt. Her aunt arranges for Shayda to meet Hafez. Both are very young and really have no say so in the arranged marriage that is set up for them. So they're married, living with Hafez parents, struggling for a future, when Shayda finds a job with a realtor, Bob. Because of her job and Bobs family Shayda is introduced to Troy Heathgate.I don't want to give out any spoilers but I will tell you this. It took Shay... moreda a long time to admit she had feelings for Troy. She loves her husband, Hafez, but she also loves Troy. She's human and humans make mistakes. There are many mistakes made by all the main characters in this book. But that's to be expected; everyone is so young when the book starts. When reading 53 Letters you won't a hate a single character. You won't root for one against the other. You will feel for Shayda and you will feel what she feels. You will know her hurt and her pain and her heart.I'm not going to reveal the ending of the book but you will see everything come full circle. You will enjoy this book immensely if you're not turned off by the cheating. Keep in mind it was an arranged marriage and not a marriage of love to begin.Review done for Stories and Swag
review 2: I’ve got the e-book as a gift from the Author, Thanks again Leylah.I truly loved the story even though I had issues with it to start with, because as a Muslim Eastern woman infidelity is unforgivable. With the exception of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina I’ve never touched a book with this plot.So the fact that I still loved 53 letters for my lover in spite of all my inhibitions should tell you how great a writer Leylah Attar actually is.The writing style is amazing, many sentences were practically poetic.I loved the plot, the flow of events and the transition between the past and the present.I loved the male lead characters much more than the heroin which is very unusual for a feminist :) , but really I couldn't help loving how sweet and wonderful Troy was, I really liked Hafez and felt terribly sorry for him.I felt Sorry for Shayda too, but I failed to love her or even connect to her.As I see it; there were many chances for her to End things with Hafez and be free to love Troy, leaving her husband for a man she couldn’t fight her love for would've definitely been better than cheating on him, and what made things worse for me is that I didn't get that she’s even feeling that guilty about it :( The attempted rape scene was nerve-wrecking, the part with the whole cancer issue was also heartbreaking. But I loved that the love story time span was almost two decades.I loved that their attraction was extraordinary right from the start and kept growing, I simply loved that they had history. The development of their love was incredibly romantic and touching. In my opinion, a tragic ending would’ve been better suited for such a tragic love story, but I can’t deny that the final part was just lovely.Leyla, you’re a terrific writer, your words truly touched me and many lines of your novel will be stuck in memory forever .. thank you for that, I can’t wait for your next title.Best of luck ♥ less

One of my best reads. Troy Heathgate beats 50 Shades of Christian Grey to shame.
