When The Fat Ladies Sing
review 1: Misfortune Cookies was lot of fun to read, but it was over the top on the fat lady theme. I realize the protagonists are heavy, and it was okay to introduce them with detailed menus of what they ate at each meal. That gave the reader a sense of each character. But later, it got to be too much fluff, and I skipped over it.The story is a lighthearted whodunnit with some serious themes underlying the plot.Makes for a pleasant read on a rainy day.
review 2: Very cute premise, light christian inspired mystery that takes place in Wachita, Texas. There were no dead bodies to be stumbled over in this mystery, but rather it centered around mysterious messages that the main character, Lovita, received in a fortune cookie while dining out with her best friend/room-mate S
... moreueJan.Honestly, I did not like SueJan one bit: she's overbearing, self-centered, and judgemental. The relationship that develops rather quickly between her and the other male secondary character (I won't say lest I give it away) I found very hard to buy. While Lovita is pretty likable, I found the "mystery" to be forced and hard to follow, and found it a little lacking. The second installment is NOT available on the NOOK at this time, but the third is; however I don't really think I will foray into Wachita for any further adventures with Lovita and especially SueJan. less
