review 1: This is one of the most horrible non-fiction books I have ever read! Not horrible as in the outline of the text, but horrible as in what Lisa had to put up with her whole childhood. The fact that Lisa had to grow up with her abusive stepdad is defiantly heartwrenching. It is even more upsetting that her own family did absolutely nothing to protect her from that nightmare. At times it was hard for me to continue reading the book because of the intense stories she explains to the readers of her pain and misery. Even though the book was hard to read, it will always keep you on your toes wanting to know what will happen next. You will experience so many different emotions while reading this book, and even might find a tear while reading some of her stories. This book made me ... moreupset at times because there were so many opportunities for Lisa to escape but she was always lead back into the doors of her stepdad. Even when she did escape and thought she was safe for good, someone or something would get in her way. No child should have to go through what Lisa did. After completing this book, I felt a sense of relief because Lisa was finally able to escape and press charges. It is imperative that Lisa should get a lot of credit for what she has accomplished throughout her life. The fact that she was able to move on from her childhood and create a better life for herself is amazing. Its sad to think that Lisa doesn’t have family to support her throughout her lifetime but it gives you as the reader a good feeling that she is finally safe from the abusive and is moving on to bigger and better things. I recommend for anyone read this book if you like suspenseful true stories.
review 2: This book is heart wrenching to say the least. I found it to be a real page turner, I just couldn't put it down. There were so many different emotions i felt whilst reading this book, and a few parts where I had tears in my eyes. Lisa is such a strong woman to have endured what she did for so long and manage to come out of her experience and have a happy healthy family. I'm still reeling that a mother would just sit back and watch her child go through this and not try and stop it. I still hate to think there is people in the world who would steal a child's innocence like Frank did Lisa. less
