review 1: 2 1/2 starsThis story started off pretty good, but it fell short. Abby was kidnapped in Europe and spent about a year as a sex slave. She escaped her owner and is found by a naval ship under the command of Eric. Abby is very pregnant and Eric immediately puts her under his protection. The story had such potential and could have moved in a number of directions, but I felt it went nowhere. After reading the book, I realized I still know nothing about Abby. Her past before her kidnapping was ignored and her captivity was glanced over. I didn't feel a connection with Eric either. I actually didn't like his character unless he was interacting with Abby. He was chauvinistic and not afraid to let everyone know how women should not be in the military. His views didn't even ch... moreange at the end of the book. He did get points for being protective of Abby. With Abby, he was gentle, caring and understanding, even though he was noted as a hard man that showed no emotion. There was some info dumping as well, making paragraphs overly long and there was a bit of repetitive information as well. We are told over and over how handsome Eric and his crew are and characters' every movements were a little distracting. There were a lot of unanswered questions, but my guess is, they're revealed in the next book in the series. I just wish Eric wasn't such a negative character and I would like to have seen character growth for both Eric and Abby and to see their relationship challenged a little more.
review 2: Saved is a romance novel set aboard an American Naval ship; between a young pregnant woman that is found in a dinghy out in the Arabian sea and the Captain of the ship. The writing is average told in various characters POV; there are some editing and grammar issues but not so much that it takes away from the story. The plot is interesting however quite unrealistic and inaccurate. I love a good military romance and this story had potential but I can not ignore the inaccuracy of Navy procedures nor the unrealistic situations that the author put her characters in. It is obvious that the author has never given birth nor breastfed. What really through me for a loop was the racist remarks made by one of the characters; I understand that the author may have wrote it for that particular character's mindset but it really stayed with me through out the book and that bothered me. All in all I would have to say a disappointing read. less
