review 1: The story was OK and in better hands I would have enjoyed it more as it combines two of my interests: history and time travel. But there are problems which I could not overcome and they marred my enjoyment of the book.1. Too many characters introduced with very little time for development.2. Poor editing. The formatting was not right and there were simple mistakes which should have been picked up on.3. I didn't really think much of the style of language used. Part of the book is set during the Victorian era but I didn't really get that vibe. A bit of research would have meant that the language used by the characters was more authentic.4. Very confusing switches between the present and past eras. The switches were inconsistent and there was no easy way to tell when a switch... more had taken place.5. Abrupt ending to try and make you buy the next in the series. But the ending of this book was unsatisfactory anyway and didn't persuade me to read the rest of the series.6. My edition (for the Kindle) had 'special keys' which detracted from reading the book. These keys were supposed to direct you to extra content but all I got was the page to buy the book (and as I was reading the book clearly I already had the book).Overall then, a good premise for the story but a struggle to get through. I would not recommend it and am glad that the book was free when I bought it.
review 2: Oh man... Where to begin...This story was so unlike anything I've ever encountered before! The idea of time-travel, but in this new, exciting way, turned me on instantly. And so did Sebastian for that matter ;) Yum! I want me some of the Earl of Ravenhurst!Loved the characters! The main character kind of ticked me off every so often because of how immature she acted about some things, but I think I can kind of understand where she came from. Sebastian was like soooo freaking sexy that I found myself a little jealous of Katherine. Milford was adorable in an old guy kind of way, Devlin made my lips twitch because of his witty banter with Sebastian. All of the characters were unique in their own right, and so much is still unexplained! The plot was constantly moving, which is something I like in my YA novels. I typically get bored very easily, so Beaumont did a bang up job of keeping me engaged and interested to the end. I was constantly reading to find out what would happen next, and it was always a twist I wasn't expecting! Can't wait to get my hands on the sequel! So excited to see how everything pans out! And sorry, Katherine, but Sebastian is mine ;) less
