review 1: I have to admit I had been finding the story very inane. Author L.T. Vargus's "Casting Shadows" rolls out of the gate with nothing to say. It's protagonist Jake a 15 year old 10 th grader gets involved with a twenty something cousin of his named Nick. Through most of the story the novel has nothing to tell. Jake has crush on the high school hottie Beth. Although Jake and Beth become friends Jake stumbles through what most people would consider progress in a relationship. Nick on the other hand is just a stone cold thug. Nick does have a talent which is teaching Jake how to steal. The dialog is very raw and pretty much to the way most teenagers actually speak today. The characters in "Casting Shadows" go from thin and flimsy to somewhat in depth. Here's the kicker. I had t... moreo find out how the story ended. As I got closer and closer to the end I enjoyed the book more and more. It's ending is quite sad and depressing but probably close to reality. Yes I would recommend this book. Once you catch on to the inside parts of the story it's actually a very good read. When I completed last page I told my wife- Now that's a good book. 5 stars out of 5 no doubt about it. Give L.T. Vargus and "Casting Shadows" some time and you'll enjoy the heck out of it !
review 2: This was a very interesting read, the action is more in the narrator Jake's head than in the story, although there is some their too. Jake doesn't have friends, he is shy and in-confident, but his uncle Nick is trying to help him with that in a few strange ways. I enjoyed this first person narrative for it's individuality. You don't read a lot of books like this, but it kept my attention and I kind of felt sympathy for the young Jake trying to figure out how to grow up. less

It was OK, showed potential and had an interesting concept, but probably for a younger audience
