Summer is just around the corner, which means I will be spending a lot more of my time inside avoiding the heat. You can bet that I’ll be having lots of cold drinks, and freezies.
Staying inside just means that I will have more time to read. Now these books are not ones that I’ll read in the summer. These books just remind me of summer since the books take place during summertime.
Here are a few of my favourite summer themed contemporaries!
- Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
Since You’ve Been Gone is a book that I will hold dear to my heart for I think the rest of my life. The lengths that Emily will go to find her friend Sloane is amazing. However, I think its how Emily got herself to come out of her shell via Sloane’s list of things to do, that I loved most about this novel. That and, even though there is some romance in this novel, it’s not the main aspect of the story, nor is it the most important part.
- Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour was such a cute read. I loved how, over the course of this book, Amy got to work through her grief and find herself. It’s not easy to lose a loved one–but to lose one to a car accident? Horrible.
- Just One Day by Gayle Forman
Just One Day is one heck of a ride. I’m not saying that in a bad way–I’m saying that in the best way possible, because there’s so much adventure in this book. Forman managed to pack in three different countries into one novel and that, my friend, is amazing.
- We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
If there’s one mystery book that I would read again, it would definitely be We Were Liars. The summer vacation portion of this novel is incredible. I adored the parts of the book where it was pointedly about summer. Yet the author combined the mystery portions so well into the novel that I didn’t actually know that it was a mystery.
- My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
It’s been a while since I’ve read My Life Next Door, yet the summer feel that I have towards this book is incredibly strong. I love the romance that blossoms within this book!
- Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
Open Road Summer was a book that surprised me. I didn’t think that I would end up liking ORS, since, I typically don’t like Contemporary novels. However, I enjoyed the road trip that Reagan ends up going on with her best friend, and I also enjoyed the more delicate parts of this novel, too.
- Saving June by Hannah Harrington
It has been a while since I’ve read Saving June–maybe like, 4-5 years? However, I remember Saving June to be a gut-wrenching book, since the story is about a June, who would have died in June, but ended up killing herself two weeks before her senior graduation.
