review 1: Lucy and Susan Litcher aka Isis and Jackrabbit decide to walk the Appalachian Trail (A.T.). They start at the North end and head south making them SoBo's (South bounders). They decide to walk barefoot as long as it is fun and safe. This book is more than their story, it's about the 2100 + Mile trail and all the people they meet on the trail. It's about endurance, taking zero days, the hardships, the decisions they make. It's how the trail can change people. If you think you might like to hike the A.T. read this book for good advice. If like me, you are more of an armchair adventurer, read this anyway. It's informative and dramatic with comic antics sprinkled in. But mostly it is about physical endurance, friendships, sisters, and the people off trail who go out of... more their way to help those on the trail. My book shelves are light on non-fiction, but I really enjoyed this one.
review 2: Once I decided to actually hike the Appalachian Trail after decades of waiting I picked up this book and came as close to actually eating a book by reading as I have ever done. Turns out I lived on the same island in Maine as the authors and knew a certain Scott that they adventured with down in South America. I've met many of the characters they write about so it's for real. Great story telling from two points of view giving a realistic of all the unbelievable things one goes through while thru hiking.
