review 1: I've been enthralled with the Martins since hearing about them in the Wall Street Journal 2 years ago, and was delighted to get a chance to read the book. It's fun to hear about their challenges as they go from place to place. The tips section at the back of the book was especially helpful. As a first book, I found the writing to be a bit superlative-laden. I'm looking forward to the next book and a bit more serious introspection.
review 2: I received this book for free from Goodreads First ReadsThis was a really good travel story of a couple who decide to sell everything except what would fit into a small storage unit and travel the world and be “Home Free”. The author about to turn seventy felt like she had a lot of places she still needed to see before s
... morehe got too old. When she broached the subject with her husband he laughed and said “Oh my God, we're on the same page” so the planning began, he was the trip planner, and they found some wonderful places to stay and ways to travel. In this book we will travel with them through nine countries, plus a few trips back States side. The author and her husband state that this life style is not for everyone and hopes that their example help others understand that “old” doesn't mean “finished” or resign to a life of boredom and routine. That living free is more than an action; it's a mindset, an attitude allowing one to embrace a new idea, change a long-observed pattern, or make a new friend.Besides great descriptions of the places they lived, we the future travelers can benefit from their mistakes as they actually tell you what they did to turn bad situations around by observing the customs and mannerisms of the people in each country or asking a local why something happened, common sense maybe, but I think we don't always pay attention to our surroundings. This is a story for young or old alike, one does not think about age but just of the travel, relationships made, and the fun of being able to go where you want, and enjoy what life has to offer. To the author, I will try to postpone Nothing! less
