review 1: The female lead/heroine Lane for 1/2 of the book was written as a stereotypical virgin, naïve country bumpkin from Kansas. Her whole world was her mother who has passed away. She leaves Kansas after getting an internship (believing that means she will be paid while she works) in LA. She seemed to have "nailed" the video interview. She wants to be a part of the movie making business. She believes this is her foot in the door. After spending nearly all her money to get to LA figures out the brutal truth about what an internship is and that hers was given away to someone who had connections which she most definitely does not. She has no family or friends to help finance her trip back to Kansas either. The male lead/hero Dillon is an up and coming action movie star. He nearly... more loses his biggest movie role because he doesn't like to read movie scripts. That is why he has a female script reader to read them for him and tell him if they are good movies or not. He slept with each one until they became too clingy or he just lost interest and showed them the door. His only good points are his fierce love and loyalty and acceptance of his gay brother "Choo". Their parents couldn't accept it and tried several times to have him "deprogramed" but when those failed they kicked him out of their home and lives. That is a reason Dillon works so hard on his career/image to be able to set up a life for the both of them without worrying about their Dad coming after Choo. The other good point is he rescued 4 dogs and they are written about in the story quite often. So, of course Lane becomes Dillon's script reader and dog walker and gets to stay in his home with Choo who really likes her as a person. She of course is enamored by Dillon's hot body but tries to down play it without success. She saves Dillon's ass by reading the golden script so he can finally say yah or nah to it just before the role/offer is pulled. They begin to fall for each other and there is plenty of sex. But of course Lane is so insecure because she is not built or groomed like any of the women in LA she meets. Dillon gets a crash course in what Hollywood is really like behind closed doors and it eventually tears them apart. But, don't despair there is a happy ending.
review 2: You take a chance and turn down a summer job that was the “right” one to take and go to L.A. to accept a job that could lead to your dream career. That is what Lane Channing decides to do even though she is alone and has no idea what to expect. What she finds is something that will change her life forever.Lane is a smart, practical girl who doesn’t want or expect help from anyone. When she arrives in L.A., she learns the hard way that accepting help isn’t always a bad thing. Lane is a character that I really enjoyed getting to know. I loved her determinism and her strength. I especially loved her interactions with Dillon. She never took any crap from him even though she was madly attracted to him.Dillon, on the other hand, was not my favorite when I first “met” him. He was arrogant and rude and thought anyone around him should feel privileged. Dillon and Lane’s first interaction was anything but pleasant. As the story progressed, I was able to see that yes, he does have a heart and truly cares about the people in his life. By the end, he had me hooked :)I can’t go without saying this… I LOVED Dillon’s brother, Choo!! He has to be one of the sweetest, most caring characters and I so wanted him to be real, lol! He befriends Lane immediately and helps her in more ways than one. Trust me….you all will fall in love with him! This is a wonderful and romantic story with just the right amount of angst. Marr grabbed me from the beginning and kept me wanting more even after I finished reading. I simple cannot wait for the next book in the series, Broken Glamour! It is set to release in March of this year :) less
