review 1: This book is explained in the title "War is..." We talk about war as if it's nothing sometimes and we hardly know any details of what is happening out there. But this book is raw and real, it gives us a taste of what is going on. This makes you realize just how brutal going to war really is. It's a book everyone should read at some point. I'd recommend this book to readers 15 and up. Definitely should read if they have any thought of joining the armed forces.Warnings: Violence, sexual assault, and language
review 2: I had a hard time reading this book, but not for the obvious reasons that it's about war. That's not it at all. I liked reading this book because it was very informative, but I hated it because it showed me what really happens in war and in the army
... more, and it made me sick and angry. I especially had a hard time reading it because my boyfriend in in Afghanistan right now, and I am constantly worrying about him, and if he will come home, or if he's experiencing what I've read in the book. I did like that it showed both sides of war, the good and the bad, but I just had an issue with how horrible everything really is in this world when it comes to war, and the military in general. I would give this book to any teenager who even entertains the idea about going into the military, because as the book said, recruiters lie to the teens to get them into the army, and once you're in you're pretty much stuck until the military is done with them. This books answers a lot of questions that people have about war, and actually makes the reader think about the world around them and really take a good long and hard look at war.Language: oh yeah, it's the army, like they'll be polite.Drugs: yup, and drinking.Violence: It talks about war and death and how people react to it. Sex: not too much.Rock and Roll: mentions. less
