review 1: I've been reading this over the course of about 3 baseball seasons now. Finally finished. I'm not a Yankees fan, but their history is certainly interesting. In fact, there is so much history, there's essentially only space enough to list events over the course of almost 700 pages. The early history was a fascinating glimpse into early baseball. It was nice to have an insider view of more recent years, though Appel certainly is biased toward those he worked with/for. All in all, a fine chronology of the Yankees.
review 2: I wanted to complete this book during the long winter and I am pleased to say that on Opening Day of 2013, it is done! What a book for a lifelong Yankees fan to read; it is comprehensive to say the least. What makes it special is that Mar... morety Appel was the publicity director of the Yankees at the end of the Mantle (and original Yankee Stadium,) era and has access to stories, personal experiences and references that are rare. It is a rich read, like hitting for the cycle against an All-Star caliber pitcher. Highly recommended for Yankees fans and recommended for real baseball fans. less
