review 1: This man was not a writer. He just felt that God wanted him to tell his story and that was why he was sent back for six years before he died. As he was not a writer, there was much repetition and a lot of Bible quoting to make a whole book out of a short experience, but I think he did go to Heaven and saw it from his perspective, which I suppose each of us may. He talked a lot about all the babies in Heaven, from tiny fetuses to older ones, so I think it would be comforting to anyone who has lost a child.
review 2: I thought this was a lovely account of an altered consciousness experience that was clearly spiritually transformative for Marv. While he didn't have a Near Death Experience (NDE) in the technical sense, he did have an out-of-body spiritual encount
... moreer, often referred to as a Near Death Like Experience (NDLE).I felt the co-author, Lorilee Craker, did a great job of capturing the voice of Marv. He felt like a likable grandfather to me, probably because my own grandfather used to refer to himself as a "Dutchman!" The book was a fast read and it seemed Marv was telling me in his own words his experience.I have seen several criticisms about the Christian message and that Marv indicated that only Christians get into heaven. I did not see that message. I believe Marv was seeing what was reflective of his belief system, including the music, which were familiar hymns. He said in the book that he felt that people of other faiths would hear music that was familiar to them. I interpreted from that his awareness that we see what we see according to our faith, but it's all driven by the universal spirit of love. less
