Monthly Wrap-Up: November 2017

Oh look, another month that has gone by! Now we’ve only got one month left of the year, and it’s the time for me to start thinking about buying Christmas presents. Great.

This month has been a pretty busy month for me.

You may or may not have noticed that posts have been thin on the ground from me, which is because I was participating in NaNoWriMo, and a wrap-up post will be coming for that soon. Since I was concentrating on my writing, I only read 4 books this month. Although this does bring me up to 60 books read this year, 10 more than my target of 50, so I can afford to slack a little bit!

Without further ado, here are the books I read this month:

Ratings:

Uprooted – Naomi Novik: 4/5 stars

They Both Die At The End – Adam Silvera: 5/5 stars

You’re The One That I Want – Giovanna Fletcher: 4/5 stars

The Walled City – Ryan Graudin: 3/5 stars

This month, I managed to blitz a couple of books that have been on my tbr pile for a while: Uprooted and The Walled City.

Uprooted is a book that I was made aware of through Tumblr, and a very much hyped book at that, which put me off reading it for a while. I did end up liking the book, and while I thought the beginning had a strong start, I found the ending a little lacking. It had a very much grown up fairy tale feel to it, as well as a creepy aspect to it making it a great winter read.

The Walled City is a book that I won in a giveaway but never gotten around to reading. It’s a gritty book with no many light moments in it (if any at all), and I find it amazing that the walled city featured in the book is based on an actual place! I thought that it was a bit slow going to begin with, especially having to get used to the three points of views, but by the end, I couldn’t put it down.

You’re The One That I Want is another book by Giovanna Fletcher – I thought I had caught up with all her books but she’s now released another one! I like reading her books because they’re light, fluffy reads and are quite addictive. It made a nice change considering some of the dark books that I read recently. Again, this book was a cute romance novel, and while the character of Maddy didn’t end up with the one I wanted her to end up with, I was very satisfied with the ending. On a side note, whenever I saw the title, I did get that famous song stuck in my head!

They Both Die At The End is another hyped book, this time from Twitter. Admittedly, I was drawn to the book by the US cover (and the version I ordered, sorry UK cover) as well as the premise. It does deserve the hype as I fell in love with the characters. There were other characters that had short points of views, and their stories intertwined with those of the main characters. It was compulsive reading, because you knew Mateo and Rufus were going to die (not a spoiler, it’s in the title!) but you wanted them to live, to have more than one day together, but you also wanted to know how they would die. My emotions were wrecked by this book, and is deserving of five stars.

So those were my reads for the month. My current read is Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff which I’m enjoying and have nearly finished. Much to my family’s dismay, about half of my Christmas Wish List consists of books, so let’s see what I get this year (and if it’s anything like last year – not many!) I have a couple of weeks off work over the Christmas period, so I should get a bit of reading done, and more opportunity to blitz that ever-growing tbr pile!

Which books did you enjoy this month?
