review 1: I picked up this book because I saw a snippet and liked her way with words. My mom passed away 2 years ago, not from cancer, but Parkinson's and I find myself looking for reasons why I feel like I do. Why I acted the way I did and didn't. In this memoir it is plain to all of us who grieve that we do it in our own way. But oh, wouldn't it be wonderful to feel comfortable to grieve in an external way rather than keeping it 'private' so as not to make anyone 'uncomfortable'.
review 2: I liked the later chapters and the ones referencing the psychology of grief (especially chapter 8). I lost my mother at a young age so I do not identify with her since she lost her mother as an adult. I didn't have the same feelings, some were similar. I wanted to read this book s
... moreince I saw it at the library and wanted to confront any unresolved grief I may have. I didn't tear up reading this, as some parts were boring and I found it hard to get through. I enjoy her writing style sometimes, other times it's a little too artsy for me (I'm more analytical hence me liking the psychology aspects). I'd rate this book a 3.5, I'm not an extremely emotional person so I struggled to identify with her, but I do understand the longing for a mother. less
