review 1: Could not put this book down! Great story, loved the protagonist, 11-year-old girl who won't be told that girls don't fly, loved the setting (WWII) and just the right amount of description, great plot elements -- adults don't believe kids, standing up to bullies, sticking up for yourself and your dreams -- experiences all kids have -- but also, murder, mystery, racism, you name it! I can't wait to share this book with my students! Then, to top it off, I find out that the author lives in my town!

... morer, the perfect version for the 3rd-6th grade crowd, and it has a wonderful message for all kids but especially girls: be a good friend, be true to yourself, and don't let anyone tell you "girls can't do that." I especially liked the afterword where the author (a teacher) wanted to recommend books in which a girl was the action hero. He couldn't think of any, so he wrote one. Excellent! less
