review 1: A really beautiful book that chronicles the author's journey from rescuing and rehabbing individual birds, to making the leap to a non-profit focusing on species preservation. The biggest pleasure was reading about individual birds, and their relationship with the author and her family. An interesting peek into the mostly male dominated, secretive and not very helpful world of rare and exotic bird breeders, and the author's dream of younger people becoming their apprentices, to preserve their knowledge.
review 2: I received this book from Librarythings Early Reviewers. I loved this book. It was an entertaining and easy read. I caught myself falling in love with these birds, and I do NOT consider myself a 'bird person' This an excellent story about a woman who
... more stumbles into the world of avian breeding, quite by accident. Her home slowing developed into a non-profit bird sanctuary with a focus on conservation. It's a tale of one woman who makes all the difference and we should all be inspired to follow her lead- in one way, or another. less
