review 1: I was looking for a fun read and he really delivered. His stories about being on the road were hilarious. And his Mitch Hedburg road stories were a really cool tribute and didn't dwell on his drug problems. The sleepwalking episode was really scary but it has to be hard being on the road that much. I totally relate because of my job and being by myself all the time. But I came away really liking this guy. He should write another book. I will read it looking for more comedy bits!
review 2: Strangely enough, I bought this book for my Kindle when I needed help to fall asleep. Reading takes my mind off of my life, so I can relax, but I can't risk getting too involved in a book (i.e. thrillers, mysteries, fantasy) because I will stay up all night reading. I wanted s... moreomething I knew would be good but that I could also read in installments. I've heard of Mike Birbiglia from "This American Life", and he's one of my favorite contributors. I choked on a Dr. Pepper listening to some of his stand-up, so I had high hopes for this. Did not disappoint. He's so vulnerable and hilarious that it is easy to imagine him sitting at a dinner table as a little kid begging for attention. His stories are strange, but you can see yourself reacting the same way. I had heard his standup on his sleepwalking problems, but it's still funny to read. I think the best section is when he's describing how he grew up: his unpopularity as a Catholic school kid, his distant father, his religious mother, his desire to figure out who he was. I really loved the humor and insights. Great book. less
