review 1: As a dog owner and as a person that has had several friends serve in Iraq and in other parts of the Middle East, this book really touched my heart. I loved reading about the bond between dog and man and how he helped the military in so many ways. I've read several books about the war, but I still cannot believe some of the events that occurred there and how so many people (and animals) were and still are fighting for the cause.
review 2: This book has truly shown me the bond between a marine and his dog. The story Corporal Mike Dowling has written is his story about how he struggled in school but followed what he loved and his dream. With the conflict of his father being ill and worrying if he will live, Mike chose to go overseas and serve his country. From n... moreear misses and scary walks down allies; Dowling and his dog Rex have really changed/helped military working dogs. From messing around with each other to frightening moments, Sergeant Rex is an unbelievable book. “I look to my fellow marines as my own brothers, and Rex and I are tasked with keeping them safe from the insurgents’ bombs out here. Having my courageous, crazy, stubborn, loyal, dedicated, devilishly handsome dog by my side helps me deal with the enormous stress of that responsibility.” (Page 2). I really enjoyed the suspense and thrill of the fight the Marines do. I did notice that for people who don’t know military names of explosives may be a little lost but it’s not too bad. This book is similar to No Easy Days and I highly recommend it to people who enjoy reading true military stories. A really great book; definitely a must read! less
