review 1: Life in Motion is the unique story of Misty Copeland, an african american ballet dancer currently dancing with American Ballet Theater. The book is a wonderfully written, intriguing autobiography. If you liked the book Dancing Through it by Jenifer Ringer, you would enjoy this one. As a dancer, I have always enjoyed reading about and exploring the lives and stories of professional ballet dancers. Seeing how a talented dancer's life and career evolves is so intriguing to me, which is why I was immediately drawn to this book. Copeland's journey is so unique and individual, and is extremely different from my own life. Reading it from her perspective made her story easier to comprehend and relate to. I only had one problem with the book, and that was the lengthy discussions ab... moreout her family issues in the past. I feel that it could've been shortened, rather than a reoccurring topic throughout the book. Even though she included so much information about her life, I still felt that the chapters always winded back into a discussion about the many conflicts during her childhood. Instead, I would've liked to have more in-depth information about her experiences with her starting dance at age 13. She did include (many times) that she was gifted from the beginning, but I would've loved to know the struggles she experienced while fixing and improving her technique. What were her biggest issues? What did she like and dislike about dance? What advice would you have for an aspiring dancer?I gave the book a 4 out of 5 because even though I liked the book, I still think some things could have been changed or improved upon, and it left me wanting to know a few more things. Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was interesting and eye-opening, and definitely an entertaining read.
review 2: A fascinating read. I first heard about Misty when I saw her viral ad campaign with under armor 'I will what I want' and that short little clip moved me so much I wanted to see more. I found that she had just released her biography. After starting ballet at a 'old' she was able to rise to the rank of soloist with American Ballet Theater in NYC. If you like ballet and you like biographies this is a great read! less
