review 1: Don't get me wrong, the book itself was actually quite interesting but the author totally ruined my reading experience for me. She rubbed me the wrong way and came off seeming really snobby and hardened by the end of the book. Each of her chapters focused on a new crime/death and I found it hard to sympathize or relate to the people conducting the postmortems and investigations. Nothing about their personal lives was included in the book, you see, so I formed no attachments to anyone.
review 2: Perfectly serviceable reading for the commute, but nothing especially memorable here. This felt a little bit like a forensic science version of "Call the Midwife," except far less heartfelt. I am a sucker for true crime, so I did enjoy reading about what forensic tools w... moreere available in the 1940s, but there wasn't much else of interest.A sidenote -- this was originally published with a much better title, "Evidence for the Crown." I guess they thought the current title would be easier for American audiences to interpret? Either way, unfortunate change. less
